Clarence Walker Donation

Jan
17

Former club member, Clarence Walker has made a very generous donation to CISS consisting of a bare bones Taylorcratt BC-12D and a partially completed HP-14 Schreder Glider.Clarence felt he did not have time to complete these projects and wanted to see them back in the air, and also wanted to support the club. The HP-14 has been sold to Mark Houser who currently flys with the Kendallville Club. CISS really appreciates this. Thanks Clarence !

Congratulations Kevin Waldroup

Sep
29

Kevin Waldroup earned his Private Pilot Glider Certificate flying N809S on September 28, 2013. Tow Pilot Ed Escalon described the conditions as "actual" moderate turbulence and very challenging at the time of the flight tests. Kevin is pictured below preparing for his first flight instruction with his Uncle Phil Martin when he was 4 1/2 years old. Unfortunately, it appears there were some issues getting his feet on the rudder pedals. He apparently reached them in good shape on Saturday and is shown with DPE Dan Tannas following his practical test flights.

New Glider Flying Handbook Available

Sep
25

The FAA has released an updated version of the Glider Flying Handbook as a pdf file.

The prior version was 2003.

The new version is available at:

http://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aircraft/glider_handbook/media/faa-h-8083-13a.pdf

There are still some issues with the content and editing, but the general agreement on rec aviation soaring, is that it is an improvement.
