SSA ABC and Bronze Badges

May
27

Congratulations to Kevin Johnsen and John Lerchen who earned their SSA A Badges in May.

The requirements for the badges are available in the SSA log books, or on the SSA web site.

They are one of the few things in Aviation that are free and the program provides some

challenges and motivation for continuing education. Anyone who has not been participating

is encouraged to take a look at this program.

John Lerchen soloed in 809S on Sasturday May 25th. He is moving rapidly toward his goal of obtaining his Private Pilot Glider certificate this season. John is pictured below being congratulated by Kevin Johnsen. Kevin was on the podium as the newest CISS pilot for only 6 days before being displaced by John. Based on rumors at the airport, John may be moving into the "old" pilot ranks in the near future.

Congratulations Kevin Johnsen

On May 19, Kevin soloed in 809S to become CISS's newest and youngest solo pilot.  HIs tow pilot, Mike Nichols, did his usual fine job of putting Kevin in some lift when he released from tow. There were some comments from observers that Kevin appeared to be heading for Stottlemeyer; but, he later returned to CISS for a perfect landing. Tod Herrli was waiting with the traditional bucket of cold water which he shared with Kevin along with his mom and dad, Erik and Dawn. Dawn then produced a pair of sissors and cut off Kevin's shirt tail.
